Last Bastion

Last Bastion by Alan Carter is a tense Australian crime thriller that brings disgraced soldier Sam Willard and Detective Sergeant Jill Wilkie back after Prize Catch. Sam is behind bars for exposing war crimes, while others walk free under a government amnesty. Hated by fellow inmates and marked for payback, he is offered a way out by a federal agent: infiltrate an extremist group and help rescue the son of a radical politician. In Hobart, Jill investigates a string of racially motivated attacks as tensions rise and violence edges closer. With an old adversary still in play, Sam’s undercover mission and Jill’s case begin to collide, and one mistake could trigger the very attack she is trying to prevent.
